Our Story
The Lies Family has been making limited edition wine from the vineyard for over two decades, and up until 2018 the fruit forward cabernet was only available to family and friends. Dr James Lies was born and bred in a small, agricultural Kansas town, and learned his two professional passions from his doctor father: farming and medicine. Jim settled in the Napa Valley, serving the community as an interventional cardiologist, and quickly developed a love for wine. Once in St. Helena, Jim met Robert Mondavi, one of the most iconic vintners in California, and the two became fast friends. Robert, like Jim, espoused the theory that red wine was beneficial both for heart health and the soul.
The Vineyard
Our property sits in St. Helena, a popular destination for its vineyards, beautiful scenery and culinary prowess. The same soil that produces White Lane Cabernet is responsible for nurturing the area’s many prestigious vineyards including Heitz, Hall and Corison. The quaint, picturesque town is the center of the St. Helena American Viticultural Area (AVA), which is home to over 400 vineyards along with The Culinary Institute of America of Greystone.
Our Production
We enjoy every aspect of growing the grapes and caring for our vineyard. We produce our wine in small batches and employ vineyard best practices which adds a unique complexity and concentration to the varietal. Manual pruning, thinning and picking are done with care under the meticulous guidance of longtime vineyard manager Manuel Corona. Our shared ambition is in attaining the transparency of expression of a single vineyard. We make every effort to employ environmentally sustainable practices at every step of the process.
